Rescue my heart jill shalvis5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() In Milo’s world, food still trumped everything else.Īdam got that. He was a search-and-rescue dog now, but not too long ago, he’d been nothing more than a scrappy, unwanted pup. The ten-month-old yellow lab seemed to smile at that. Milo nudged the pocket of the daypack where his food was kept.Īdam shook his head, finding some humor in the day, after all. “What do you think?” he asked, pretending he wasn’t fighting his still knocking knees to hold him up. Knowing it, Adam forced a few deep breaths to try and slow his heart rate. Milo stood at his side, still in his search and rescue vest, attentive to their surroundings even though he had to be as done in as Adam. ![]() Later, he’d have to take it all back out again and carefully repair, clean, and repack everything after the unexpected rescue, but for now he wasn’t particularly inclined toward much besides getting the hell out of there. The freezing burn of the sleet slapping him in the face didn’t help either as he opened his pack and shoved in his gear. ![]() It was hard to feel much past the heart-pounding adrenaline surge still making his limbs quiver, but the pain managed to creep through. He’d been two nights without sleep, half that without food, and his shoulder hurt like hell where his shirt was sticking to his open wound. There was a fine line between being exhausted and being comatose, and Adam Connelly had just about found it. ![]()

From the notebooks of melanin sun5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Gang violence and urban poverty play an integral part in this novel, but what readers will remember most is the brothers' deep-rooted affection for one another. The boys' loyalties to one another are tested during a cathartic climax, though it is resolved a bit too easily, and Lafayette's visions of his mother aren't fully developed or integrated into the plot. ![]() ![]() (Lafayette calls him ""Newcharlie,"" because his brother, with whom he was once so close, now seems unrecognizable to him.) Viewing household tensions and hardships through Lafayette's eyes, readers will come to realize each character's internal conflicts and recognize their desperate need to cling together as a family. Lafayette, whose mother has recently died, is worried that some day he will be separated from his two older brothers: high-school-graduate Ty'ree, who gave up a scholarship to MIT to take care of his younger siblings and Charlie, the rebellious middle boy, who, after spending more than two years in a correctional facility, has returned home cold and tough. Once again, Woodson (If You Come Softly From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun) reveals a keen understanding of the adolescent psyche via the narration of a winning seventh-grader. ![]()

My story marilyn monroe book review5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() I definitely agree it’s up there before any biographies. This edition has a new forward by Joshua Greene & it’s beautifullyillustrated with his fathers photographs. So many people try to speak for Marilyn but this is Marilyn’s own words. It’s Marilyn’sautobiography & poignantly recounts her childhood as an unwanted orphan, herearly adolescence, her rise in the film industry from bit player tocelebrity, and her marriage to Joe DiMaggio. ![]() including story approval, director approval, and cinematographer. The book is exciting but misses some of her best triumphs, it is a great ground work for understanding her backgrounding and giving context to her as an artist and person. Marilyn Monroe started her own film studio Despite being cast in a myriad of ditzy. Marilyn was the first celebrity to speak candidly about SA and neglect. It is an interesting read especially in the context of it's time when victim blaming and the label of "damaged goods" was prevalent However many important points in it are recounted by Marilyn in other places. The book wouldn't be published until over 10 years after her death, It leaves at her marriage to Joe DiMaggio when she abandoned the project. My Story is the unfinished autobiography ghost Written by Ben Hecht in which Marilyn conversationally recounts her childhood and rise to fame. ![]()

Personal by Lee Child5/10/2023 ![]() But then, if you turn that into a movie, it is fundamentally real: people in a real physical place and so you're limited straight away to the real people available. On the selection of Tom Cruise to play Reacher in the first film adaptationĪ book is entirely in the realm of imagination: my imagination and your imagination. To be his size is fine, to be any bigger than that is weird. So I invented a character that is substantially bigger than Reacher and of course Reacher thinks that's weird. That's something I feel I have to do sometimes because if its David versus Goliath and Reacher is David then Goliath has got to be some really awesome thing. On creating a character in this book who is even bigger and uglier than 6'5" Jack Reacher So he is both challenged by the technical problem but also somewhat contemptuous of the reasons why it needs to be sorted out. They know everything's nonsense and they know this is all behind-covering by the politicians. He's seen it from the inside, and there is nothing more cynical than a serving soldier. On using Reacher to make light of international politics, politicians and various national security agenciesĪ guy like Reacher. ![]() She finally comes around and decides to go to work. Contracts need signing and she’s the only one with any legal authority, but hey, not her problem. ![]() She decides the best thing to do is ignore the team completely as she knows nothing about football. ![]() She gets to keep the team if, and only if, the league basement Chicago Stars make the AFC championships this year. Phoebe, a girl abused in her youth that has no real connections to her family, was left her father’s football team in his will. Is this one of those pre-enlightenment books I’ve heard about where the guy is an asshole, the girl is a pushover, and the plot is maddening? I can see why many people like this book but I have to wonder if it’s a generational thing. So why is Dan drawn to the shameless sexpot like a heat-seeking missile? And why does the coach’s good ol’ boy charm leave cosmopolitan Phoebe feeling awkward, tongue-tied…and ready to fight? ![]() ![]() And the sexy new boss is everything Dan despises-a meddling bimbo who doesn’t know a pigskin from a pitcher’s mound. And Phoebe is definitely not ready for the Stars’ head coach, former gridiron legend Dan Calebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. The Windy City isn’t quite ready for Phoebe Somerville-the outrageous, curvaceous New York knockout who has just inherited the Chicago Stars football team. ![]()

Empty by Suzanne Weyn5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great question! I guess you could say that I don’t believe that the regular person always gets the straight story on what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to the things governments, big business, and other powerful groups are doing. Are you a conspiracy theorist? Or do you enjoy hearing the conspiracy theories? The Bar Code Tattoo seems to be based upon conspiracy theories. Her newest novel, Empty, an ecological romance, will be released in October 2010. In 2007, she was nominated for Jugendliteraturepreis for youth literature in Germany for The Bar Code Tattoo The Bar Code Tattoo was also nominated in 2007 by the Nevada Library for Young Adult literature and the same novel was the ALA 2005 Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers. Suzanne Weyn, widely known for her science fiction novels The Bar Code Tattoo and The Bar Code Rebellion, has written over fifty novels and short stories, mainly geared toward children and young adults. ![]() |
